Darren Till set to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.7 months ago
Darren Till takes on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in a boxing match, part of the undercard for Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson PPV.

Darren Till has not fought since he lost to Dricus du Plessis via rear naked choke submission. The loss was his third in a row with the other being a decision loss to Robert Whittaker and a submission loss to Derek Brunson. Till was rumored to face Mike Perry in BKFC but Ariel Helwani recently broke the news that the Brit Till will take on Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in a 190lbs matchup inside the ring in the undercard of the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson PPV.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is the son of the legendary Mexican boxing champion of the same now. However, Chavez Jr. was unable to replicate the success of his father. Nonetheless, he did face Canelo Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs in his 61-fight professional boxing career. Chavez Jr. is 38 years old and had recently lost to ex-UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. However, he rebounded with a victory against David Zegarra. Nevertheless, Chavez Jr. is a one-time WBC middleweight champion and has defended his title thrice.

Darren Till is a one-time UFC welterweight title challenger. He fought Tyron Woodley for the welterweight title and lost via submission. The Brit has had problems making 170lbs and hence moved to middleweight after he was knocked out by Jorge Masvidal. He did well in a couple of fights at middleweight before he went on the losing spree. Still only 31, Till has yet years of athletic prime ahead of him but has suffered several injuries already.

One of the biggest reasons for Till’s losses in MMA was due to the glaring deficiency in wrestling. Against Chavez Jr. in a boxing match, Till won’t have to worry about it. However, Chavez Jr. is the most accomplished boxer even though Till’s MMA striking is top-notch. Tyson vs. Paul is scheduled for July 20 with Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor on the co-main event. Till vs Chavez would likely be the featured bout on the PPV.

Nonetheless, only Amanda Serrano versus Katie Taylor holds any significance in the PPV. The women had headlined Madison Square Garden the previous year and put on a scintillating display in front of a sellout crowd. However, Till would be eager to announce his return in style and showcase an exciting display of striking.
